GDPR Privacy Notice

This notice explains, in plain words, what personal data offgriddr.com processes, why, and what rights you have under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679. Our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy say the same things in more detail.

1. Who is responsible

The data controller is Adriaans Media (OFFGRIDDR), Weebosserweg 89, 5571LL Bergeijk, the Netherlands, reachable through our contact form.

2. What we process, and why

You can read every article and use every calculator without giving us any personal data. The site has no public user accounts, no shop and no affiliate tracking. We process personal data in these situations:

  • Newsletter (only if you sign up). We store the name and email address you enter, and when you signed up. We use them only to email you when new articles, calculators or major updates go live. Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).
  • Analytics (only if you accept). If you accept analytics cookies in our cookie banner, Google Analytics 4 measures which pages are visited and how the site is used, with IP anonymization switched on. We never send what you type into a calculator. Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). If you reject, or never choose, Google Analytics is not loaded at all.
  • Contact form messages. If you use our contact form, we use your name, message and email address to reply. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering you (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
  • Real Projects owners (only if you have an account). We store your account, your project and the video list of your connected YouTube channel. We read the channel’s public details and videos through the YouTube Data API. We also email you about new uploads and posts ready to check. Legal basis: our agreement with you to provide this service (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). You can switch off the upload emails at any time.
  • Questions from viewers (only for connected channels). Once a week we read the public comments under the videos in your published posts. We process them in memory and store only reworded, general questions and your answers. We never store viewers’ names, channel IDs, profile pictures or comment text. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in helping owners answer common questions (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Like any website, our server also handles technical data such as your IP address and the page you request, to deliver the page and protect the site against abuse. These server logs are kept only briefly.

3. Who else receives data

  • Newsletter list: stored in our own database (the open-source Supabase software) on a server we manage. We do not sell, rent or share the list.
  • Google Analytics: Google receives the analytics data described above, only after your consent. Google may process it outside the EU, including in the United States, under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. See the Google Privacy Policy.
  • YouTube videos:some articles show a video preview. The preview picture is loaded from YouTube’s servers, so Google sees your IP address. The video player itself only loads when you press play, using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). From then on YouTube’s own privacy policy applies.
  • Contact form: messages are delivered to our inbox by Resend (email processor), and the form is checked by Cloudflare Turnstile (bot protection), which sees your IP address. Both may process this outside the EU, including in the United States.
  • YouTube Data API: for owners who connect a channel, we read its public details and video list from YouTube. We send YouTube only the IDs of the channel and videos we read. See the YouTube Terms of Service.
  • Google Gemini: writes out what is said in a video when there are no public subtitles, and turns viewer comments into reworded questions. Google may process this outside the EU, including in the United States. See the Google Privacy Policy.
  • Resend (emails to owners): sends the emails to Real Projects owners. It may process this outside the EU, including in the United States.

4. How long we keep it

  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe, then we delete your details.
  • Analytics: Google keeps the event data for the retention period set in our Analytics account (Google allows at most 14 months). Reports that no longer identify anyone may be kept longer.
  • Contact messages: as long as needed to handle your question.
  • Real Projects: until you delete your account. The YouTube video list is deleted when you disconnect your channel.
  • Transcripts we write out: kept beside a draft for as long as that post exists. A transcript that never becomes a post is deleted after a week.
  • Viewer question suggestions: until their post or your account is deleted. Viewer comments are not stored.
  • YouTube figures we show, such as view counts: refreshed daily.

5. Cookies

We only store what the site needs to work (your cookie choice and your light or dark theme) and, with your consent, Google Analytics cookies. See our Cookie Policyfor the full list and the “Cookie Settings” button to change or withdraw your consent at any time.

6. Your rights

You can ask us to see, correct or delete your personal data, to limit or object to how we use it, or to receive a copy. You can withdraw your consent at any time: unsubscribe by contacting us, and change your analytics choice through the cookie settings. Withdrawing consent does not affect what happened before. Owners can also download their data, delete their account, or disconnect their YouTube channel from their account pages. Write to us through our contact form and we will answer within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or the authority in your own EU country.

7. Links to other websites

Our articles link to other websites, such as sources and YouTube videos. This notice only covers offgriddr.com. Other sites have their own privacy policies.
