Privacy Policy
Last Updated On: 28-Oct-2026
Effective Date: 28-Oct-2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Adriaans Media, Weebosserweg 89, 5571LL Bergeijk, the Netherlands, reachable through our contact form, handles personal information when you use our website (https://offgriddr.com, the “Service”). Our GDPR Privacy Notice gives the same facts in short form.
If we change this policy, we post the new version here and update the date above. If a change affects how we use data you already gave us, we will ask for your consent again where the law requires it.
1. Information We Collect
You can read all articles and use all calculators without giving us any personal information. The site has no shop and no affiliate tracking. The only accounts are for Real Projects owners, who share their own off-grid project. We only collect:
- Your name and email address, if you sign up for the newsletter, plus the date you signed up.
- Usage data from Google Analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies: which pages you visit, roughly where you are (country or city level), your device and browser type. IP anonymization is on. We never send what you type into a calculator.
- Your name, email address and message, if you use our contact form.
- Your email address and the content you add, if you have a Real Projects account: project details, timeline entries, photos, video links and the texts you write. Photos are re-encoded when you upload them, which removes hidden data such as the GPS location. Drafts stay private. Your project only becomes public after you submit it and it has been checked.
- YouTube channel data, if you connect your YouTube channel: its public details and the list of its public videos (titles, dates, length, thumbnails, and view, like and comment counts). See YouTube channels below.
- Your report, if you report a project: what you report, your email address if you give one, and a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address.
- Technical server data, such as your IP address and the page you request, which our server needs to deliver the page and protect the site. These logs are kept only briefly.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Newsletter: to email you when a new article, calculator, or major update goes live. Nothing else. Legal basis: your consent, given when you submit the form.
- Analytics: to see which pages help people and what to improve. Legal basis: your consent in the cookie banner.
- Contact form: to answer your question. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in replying to you.
- Real Projects: to sign you in, store your project, import your YouTube videos, send you the emails described below, and show your project once it is published. Legal basis: our agreement with you to provide this service.
- Viewer questions: to show questions that viewers ask under the YouTube videos of connected channels, with your answers, in your post. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in helping owners answer common questions.
- Reports: to handle the report and stop abuse. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a safe site.
- Site protection: to keep the site running and stop abuse. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a safe, working site.
We do not sell, rent or share your information for advertising. If we ever want to use it for another purpose, we will ask for your consent first, unless the law requires otherwise.
Where your data is kept
Newsletter subscribers, Real Projects accounts and everything owners add to their projects (including photos) are stored in our own database and file storage (the open-source Supabase software) on a server we manage. Only we can access it. Analytics data is processed by Google, which may handle it outside the EU, including in the United States, under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Messages from the contact form are delivered to our inbox by Resend (an email service), and the form is checked by Cloudflare Turnstile (bot protection), which sees your IP address and browser data. Both may process this outside the EU, including in the United States. Emails to Real Projects owners are sent through Resend. Google Gemini processes the video, page and comment text needed for the Real Projects features described below. Google may process that outside the EU, including in the United States.
Videos
Videos in articles and projects are click-to-load. Until you press play, you only see a preview image served from our own server, and nothing is loaded from YouTube or Vimeo. When you press play, the player loads from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) or from Vimeo with “do not track” switched on. From then on their own privacy policies apply. If you choose to always load videos straight away, that choice is stored only in your browser (localStorage), and you can undo it by clearing your browser data.
If we switch on video uploads for Real Projects, videos that owners upload are stored and streamed by Bunny Stream (bunny.net, based in the EU), which works for us as a processor. Those videos are click-to-load as well.
A Real Projects owner can ask to import the captions of their own YouTube video. Only then do they sign in with Google (OAuth) to give access for that one import. We use the access only for the import and do not keep it.
YouTube channels (Real Projects owners)
Real Projects owners can connect their YouTube channel. We use YouTube API Services to read the channel’s public details and its list of public videos. By connecting a channel you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. Connecting a channel does not need a Google sign-in.
To write out a video, we use its public subtitles. If there are none, Google Gemini listens to the video and writes out what is said. We keep that text beside the draft post, so you can check names. Nothing is public until you publish and we approve it. We use YouTube data only to run these features.
Once a week we read the public comments under the videos in your published posts. Google Gemini turns repeated questions into general, reworded questions, and answers them only from your own replies. The comments are processed in memory. We store only the reworded questions and your answers. The most asked questions you answered go on the post by themselves, after the same text checks as a post; you can remove any of them, and a removed question is never added again. The rest wait as suggestions you can add to a post. We never store viewers’ names, channel IDs, profile pictures or comment text.
If your channel is already linked to another OFFGRIDDR page, you prove that it is yours by putting a short code in your channel description. We read the description once to check it.
You can stop all of this at any time. Disconnect your channel in your settings. That stops the import and the weekly comment check, and deletes the stored video list. Channel import does not use a Google sign-in. To manage other apps with access to your Google account, use the Google Account permissions page. How Google handles data is in the Google Privacy Policy.
3. Retention Of Your Information
- Newsletter details: until you unsubscribe. Then we delete them.
- Analytics data: for the retention period set in our Google Analytics account (Google allows at most 14 months).
- Contact messages: as long as needed to handle your question.
- Real Projects account and content: until you delete them or your account. Files of a deleted account are removed by a daily cleanup.
- YouTube video list: until you disconnect your channel or delete your account. Disconnecting deletes the list.
- Transcripts we write out: kept beside a draft for as long as that post exists. A transcript that never becomes a post is deleted after a week.
- Viewer question suggestions: until their post or your account is deleted.
- YouTube figures we show, such as view counts: refreshed daily.
- Account data exports: deleted after 7 days.
- Reports: as long as needed to handle them.
- Server logs: briefly, for security and fixing faults.
Anonymous statistics that no longer identify anyone may be kept longer.
4. Your Rights
You have the right to see, correct or delete your personal data, to receive a copy, to limit or object to how we use it, and to withdraw any consent you gave. To unsubscribe from the newsletter or use any of these rights, write to us through our contact form. We answer within one month. Real Projects owners can also download a copy of their data or delete their account on their account page. They can also switch off the upload emails and disconnect their YouTube channel in their settings. You can change your analytics choice at any time through the cookie settings on our Cookie Policy page. You may also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or the authority in your own country.
5. Cookies Etc.
To learn more about what we store on your device and your choices, please refer to our Cookie Policy.
6. Security
We use reasonable security measures to prevent the loss, misuse or unauthorized change of your information, such as encrypted (HTTPS) connections, a database that visitors cannot read or change, and private file storage. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Third Party Links
Our articles link to other websites, such as sources and YouTube videos. This Privacy Policy does not cover those sites. Please read their own privacy policies.
