Going Off Grid with Solar and Batteries

We are going off grid by setting up big battery packs, inverters, and solar panels to power our house ourselves.

We are busy getting our house off the grid. We have massive battery packs. Three of these packs are sixteen kilowatt hours each, making forty-eight kilowatt hours in total, which is half of a Tesla Model S. We also have an off-grid system with three Victron MultiPlus units and a Cerbo GX. We will build the whole power supply in one go. We will use fifty-one solar panels to generate solar energy and store it in battery packs for our own use. We will not return anything or buy anything, except perhaps going off the grid for one or two months per year. We are going to make our house self-sufficient. This is a monster project that will also be interesting for you now that the net metering rules are changing.

Steps

  1. Step 1: Setting up batteries and power system

We prepared massive battery packs and off-grid system components.

  2. Step 2: Installing solar panels

We set up 51 solar panels to generate solar energy to store in battery packs for own use.

Self-Sufficient House

We will store solar energy in battery packs for our own use and no longer depend on the grid.
