I am installing an Exit Toys pool dome, which is normally made for an above-ground pool. By using a 3D-printed block, I am able to mount it on top of a built-in swimming pool.
I attach the brackets, secure the printed blocks to the frame, and thread the screws through the canvas. Then I put the tent poles into the cover and place the entire dome onto the pool.
Steps
Step 1: Attaching the hinges and brackets
I start by attaching the hinge with brackets to the edge of the swimming pool. Since the standard setup is made for an above-ground pool, I need to make sure these mounts are secure.
What I used
Item Amount Notes Hinge with brackets 1 Mounted to the pool edge Step 2: Using a 3D-printed block for mounting
Because I cannot mount the dome directly to a built-in pool edge, I use a printed block. This special block allows me to adapt the frame for my specific pool setup.
What I used
Item Amount Notes 3D-printed block 1 Used to bridge the gap for a built-in pool Step 3: Securing the frame and canvas
I build this printed block directly onto the frame. I also pull the screws right through the canvas to secure everything firmly in place.
What I used
Item Amount Notes Screws some Passed through the canvas and frame Step 4: Assembling the canopy poles
Now that the brackets are secured to the pool, it is time to put the actual enclosure together. I begin this step by sliding the tent poles through the canvas cover.
What I used
Item Amount Notes Tent poles several Passed through the dome canvas Canvas 1 The dome cover Step 5: Placing the canopy on the pool
With the tent poles fully threaded through the canvas, the dome assembly is ready. I can now take the finished canopy and lay it across the swimming pool.
Step 6: Takeaways
An above-ground pool dome can be mounted on a built-in pool using a 3D-printed block.
Screws are driven directly through the canvas during frame assembly.
The canopy is assembled by threading the tent poles through the cover before placing it on the pool.
Everything I used
| Item | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hinge with brackets | 1 | Mounted to the pool edge |
| 3D-printed block | 1 | Used to bridge the gap for a built-in pool |
| Screws | some | Passed through the canvas and frame |
| Tent poles | several | Passed through the dome canvas |
| Canvas | 1 | The dome cover |
Dome Installation Complete
The Exit Toys dome is now successfully mounted and placed over the built-in swimming pool using the 3D-printed adapter blocks.
